Jani Khaman and Locho House is a branch of the flagship outlet in Surat. We specialises in the eponymous Gujarati staples of khaman, Sev Khamani, Khandavi, Idraa, Bajiya’s, Khaaja’s, and locho.

Jani Khaman and Locho house is the only outlet in Mumbai serving Locho and the harder-to-find locho is very creatively presented. The Surti street food favourite is essentially khaman batter that’s made looser with the addition of water. In both colour and consistency, locho resembles mushy polenta. It’s meant to be eaten straight out of the steamer because if allowed to rest and harden, it turns into khaman. Jani Khaman & Locho House sells multiple types of locho (including Chinese and Schezwan options) with variations of each type. The classic khaman locho, cooked with oil and dusted with spicy masala, is a great initiation to the Surti export, but what will really get you gushing is the Cheese Roll version, in which the delicate locho is smeared with homemade mayonnaise and skillfully folded over to make a wrap, which is then heaped with grated cheese and sev. It’s served with a side of chopped onions and mildly-sweet coriander chutney. The one of the other favorites at Jani Khaman and Locho House is the equally innovative butter garlic locho. You’ll be reaching for a mint after just a couple mouthfuls of the fragrant batter. But it’s so delicious that it’s well worth risking garlic breath.
