Institute of Sustainable Development (unit under the KSRSD) started in the year 2005, is a multidisciplinary resource centre with rich experience in social development research, training and participatory community development.
Community participatory Initiatives: Local initiatives focusing on sustainable natural resources management and sustainable human resource development are implemented in a community participatory mode and in partnership with the locally present resource institutions including different departments of the State Government.
Among the community participatory initiatives, the Sustainable Learning Centre, an after-school facility for the children in the 11-13 years mould them in to environmentally conscious, socially responsible and economically productive individuals. Water and Food Security (WaFoS) Programme, a flagship programme of ISD and an all-encompassing initiative for sustainable development from ‘water for life and water for livelihood’ perspective covering nearly 1000 farmer households in the 30 Panchayats (in Thiruvallur district of TamilNadu) offers a plethora of opportunities for experiential learning, exploring new partnerships to work with farmers, women, youth and children, and for new research.
