Shri Hanumaanji is known to be the incarnation of Lord Shiva. It is believed that when Lord Vishnu took birth, in the form of Ram to vanish, the greatest demon king Ravan, the other Gods also born in monkey and bear races to help him. God Sheshnag and Lord Shiva incarnated as Lakshman and Hanuman respectively.

Vanar-Raj kesari was the father of Shri Hanumanji, and his mother’s name was Anjana alias Anjani. Kesari was a Vanar-king, as such he is called Vanar-Raj. He had no child, hence his wife Anjana, observed self-mortification to have a child, she menaced herself, worshipping Lord Shiva to be booned for a son. Lord Shiva fulfilled her desire and He himself took birth in the form of her son Shri Hanuman. The God of winds, Pawan Dev also blessed Anjana to have a great son unparalleled in strength and wisdom. Hence the son of Anjana is also called Pawan-Putra and Vayu-Putra.
